AirDrop on Android: A Game-Changer for Multi-Device Users (2025)

I'm already using AirDrop on Android multiple times per day. When Google surprised the world last week by giving us AirDrop support on Pixel 10 devices, I wasn't sure I'd adopt it so quickly. But this has been a game-changer for simple file transfers. For those who missed it, Google announced that Pixel 10 series phones, via Android's Quick Share, could connect to Apple devices and send or receive files within AirDrop. That means sharing files or photos with iPhone friends or transferring to your iPad or Mac without much effort. You just need a Pixel 10 phone and a slight change in share settings on Apple devices. Google's 'extension' update to Quick Share provides AirDrop magic behind the scenes. While it's only available on Pixel 10 phones so far, I think it's only a matter of time before Google expands to more Pixel phones and the Android ecosystem. Adding support to Samsung devices would be huge. This move by Google happened just 4 days ago, and I've been using it multiple times a day. I send a surprising amount of stuff to myself through Telegram or text message, given my diverse device setup. But with my main setup being a combination of Pixel 10 Pro XL, iPad, and Macbook, AirDrop has transformed my workflow. For example, I can take multiple screenshots from my Pixel 10 for a story and share them to my Mac for editing with a few taps. It doesn't compress or reduce resolution; it just sends them to my download folder. And if I need something downloaded to my Mac sent to my Pixel 10, I simply reverse the process and set Quick Share to 'Receive' mode. Sending to a Mac is the easiest of all devices. With AirDrop on a Mac, you have share/visibility choices of 'No One', 'Contacts Only', and 'Everyone'. 'Everyone' is the default setting and works seamlessly with Pixel 10. When sharing with an iPhone or iPad, the person must choose 'Everyone for 10 Minutes' to work with a Pixel 10, which stops after 10 minutes and needs to be re-enabled each time. We never expected Apple to consider adding Quick Share support to AirDrop, so it's surprising it was Google. But if anyone could do it, it's them. Has anyone else found this new AirDrop support as meaningful as I have?
