Oscar Piastri, a McLaren driver, is feeling optimistic despite the uncertainties surrounding Thursday's limited running in Las Vegas. Piastri believes that the McLaren car has displayed 'decent pace', and while there were many unknowns after the Australian experienced limited running during second practice, he still found 'plenty of positives' on the opening day of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Piastri ended Free Practice 1 in eighth place, but was unable to get many clean laps in during the second hour, which featured two red flags due to track maintenance. Despite this, he feels that there is still much to take from the day ahead of Friday’s running. Piastri explained that while there are some things to work on, overall he felt it was a 'pretty good session'. He also highlighted that the car's pace is decent, but it's difficult to know exactly where they stand due to the limited running. When asked about the car's performance compared to last year in Las Vegas, Piastri responded that he thinks it's better, but it's hard to know for sure due to the evolving track conditions. Looking ahead to the remainder of the weekend, Piastri remains optimistic, acknowledging that while he would have loved more laps, the track is expected to continue changing. He plans to tweak the car overnight and assess the situation tomorrow. The 24-year-old driver is confident that they can make progress and is looking forward to the rest of the weekend.
