Kapa-Kingi's legal action is a response to her expulsion, which was part of a weeks-long internal party conflict. The party's council was set to decide on formalizing the expulsions of Kapa-Kingi and Tākuta Ferris at their upcoming annual general meeting in Rotorua. The controversy began when the MP's son, Eru Kapa-Kingi, publicly accused the party of toxicity and 'dictatorship' leadership.
