Power Outages Hit Over 3,600 Residents in Hidalgo County (2026)

Imagine waking up to a cold house, with no lights, and realizing you're one of over 3,600 Hidalgo County residents currently without power. That's the reality for many right now. Both AEP Texas and Magic Valley Electric Co-op customers are feeling the impact of these outages. The hardest-hit areas appear to be Sullivan City and Alton.

Looking at the numbers, Magic Valley's outage map shows 2,293 customers in Hidalgo County in the dark. AEP's map indicates an additional 1,343 customers affected.

But here's the kicker: these outages coincide with a cold front sweeping through the Rio Grande Valley.

According to KRGV Weather, the temperature is expected to continue dropping throughout the day, bringing with it the possibility of rain and strong winds. While there's no wind advisory in place at the moment, gusts could reach up to 40 mph.

This situation raises questions about the infrastructure's ability to withstand these weather conditions. Are you in an affected area? What are your experiences during power outages? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
