Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif Allots 720 Flats to Industrial Workers | Improving Living Standards (2026)

A bold step towards enhancing the quality of life for industrial workers has been taken, as Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to elevating the living standards of this vital workforce across the province. This initiative is not just a policy change; it symbolizes a promise to prioritize the welfare and dignity of these hardworking individuals.

During a recent balloting ceremony held for the allocation of 720 newly constructed flats aimed at homeless industrial workers in the Sundar Industrial Estate, Chief Minister Maryam described this effort as characteristic of a "motherly state." She highlighted that these homes represent hope and stability for 720 industrious families, liberating them from the burdens of monthly rent and the anxiety of potential eviction.

In a gesture of personal connection, the Chief Minister initiated the balloting process by pressing a button and took the time to personally call several successful applicants to extend her congratulations. Notably, those most in need—widows and individuals with disabilities—will be granted apartments without having to participate in the balloting process, demonstrating a compassionate approach to housing.

Furthermore, she emphasized that it was crucial for individuals with disabilities to receive ground-floor apartments to ensure their comfort and accessibility. The CM also mandated that the successful recipients must take possession of their new homes within a week, illustrating her dedication to swift action in improving their lives. Looking ahead, she has ordered the completion of an additional 1,872 apartments for industrial workers within the next 18 months to further address housing needs.

In addition to these apartments, plans are underway for a bachelor hostel that will accommodate 700 workers at the Quaid-e-Azam Business Park in Sheikhupura, which is set to be completed in just three months.

Mian Manshaullah Butt, the Provincial Minister for Labour, briefed the Chief Minister on the project, reiterating that the provision of free housing options, including apartments, plots, and hostels, aligns with the vision set forth by the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The Sundar Industrial Estate apartment project has come to fruition with an impressive investment of Rs 3.40 billion, with each unit costing over Rs 3.6 million. This financial commitment underscores the government’s intent to significantly improve the lives of industrial workers.

During the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz Sharif made a heartfelt connection by calling an industrial worker named Nadeem Tahir to congratulate him, advising him to care for his parents and crediting his achievements to their prayers—a reminder of the community's importance in individual success.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that a total of 5,897 workers were deemed eligible for the Worker Welfare Complex at Sundar Industrial Estate Phase-I. Among the allocated apartments, 480 are designated for workers from Kasur, while 240 are reserved for those from Lahore. Plans are also in place for the construction of 672 apartments in Sundar Phase-II, 656 in Multan, and an additional 544 in Warburton, Nankana Sahib.

Moreover, authorities revealed that labor colonies will be established in Jhang and Kamalia, offering free residential plots of three marlas each to around 2,000 industrial workers. Following the completion of necessary infrastructure, 1,300 workers in Jhang and 700 in Kamalia will benefit from these residential plots.

This comprehensive approach to housing for industrial workers raises important questions about the sustainability and long-term impact of such initiatives. Do you believe that these measures will lead to lasting improvements in the lives of these workers? Or do you think more needs to be done? Share your thoughts in the comments!
