A legendary, long-lost Slipknot album is finally emerging from the shadows! For years, fans have whispered about a mysterious project recorded during the sessions for their 2008 album, All Hope Is Gone. Now, this enigmatic work, titled Look Outside Your Window, is slated for a special release on Record Store Day 2026. But here's where it gets interesting: it won't be a standard Slipknot release. Instead, this 12-inch vinyl will be presented as a self-titled project from Look Outside Your Window itself.
This highly anticipated album, which has been shelved for over a decade, is a fascinating glimpse into the band's creative process. Recorded by Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Sid Wilson, and Shawn “Clown” Crahan as a distinct side project, it represents a detour from Slipknot's signature sound. The band themselves explained, “We knew we were heading down a different creative path, entirely apart from Slipknot, and we followed it eagerly.” They chose the title Look Outside Your Window as a nod to this experimental spirit.
Imagine this: it was born during a period of intense energy and perhaps even a bit of chaos within the band. The songs emerged late at night, in a secluded farmhouse far from the usual hustle and bustle. With the vastness of the night sky and the unknown lurking just beyond a large picture window, the members found inspiration in the sense of mystery and the unexpected. As they described, "There were no rules; ideas could come from anywhere: subtle drum loops, bits of organ or abstract guitar noise, even samples of frogs or crickets. Guided by emotion and instinct, we let the sounds themselves point the way." This approach allowed for a truly unique sonic landscape, a departure from the raw aggression often associated with Slipknot.
This release has been a long time coming! Clown himself confirmed in a Discord Q&A last December that Look Outside Your Window would finally arrive in 2026. This follows several teased release dates that unfortunately passed by in 2019, 2023, and 2024. The limited edition nature of this release is also noteworthy, with only 2,300 copies being produced. This scarcity is sure to make it a coveted item for collectors and dedicated fans.
